When Mr. Chambers died in 1952, his wife Edith left everything exactly as it had been until her death in 1964, at which point the sisters closed their bedroom door and simply walked away. The first restoration who came to the house after Florence died said walking in here was like stepping back in time. The clothes were neatly folded, the golf clubs leaned against the furniture, and personal items still sat on the dressers. Except for a layer of dust, it looked like they could come back any minute.
