Galvanized wash tubs have an exterior layer of Zinc applied to the tub as a way to prevent rusting and increase its durability. Wash tubs assisted in household tasks before indoor plumbing and running water were available in homes. Its primary use was to hold hot water for washing clothes or for a person to bathe in.

A wash stand consists of three parts, a pitcher or a pail, a bowl, and a piece of furniture that the bowl and pitcher will rest on top of. In lieu of running water and indoor plumbing, dry sinks were used to perform quick washes of the hands and body.
